Permit Approved!

After 2 months of agita, our permit was approved on December 19th. Learn from my mistakes... GET THE PERMIT BEFORE you do ANYTHING. We were assured by both contractor and architect (who is also a permit expediter) that the permit would be approved and in-hand within 3 weeks. So, I agreed to let the contractor start on some interior work, which meant that my sons would no longer be able to use their bedroom. At first, they thought it was great sleeping in the living room but after a few weeks it got old. Then, we found out that there were issues with our permit and we were now on hold for 2+ months.

So, we basically took our small house and made it smaller. The boys would eventually be moving into our room anyway, so I started painting. Have you ever painted a fully furnished room? Don’t—it sucks.

One night I announced to my husband that we were moving the boys into our room and we were moving to the living room. He answered, “uhhh what?” The boys were not doing well with the permanent camping adventure and they needed stability. And I needed to be able to close the door on their room after I said, “good night.”

Imagine taking your house, folding it in half like a fisher price dollhouse, shaking it, and opening it back up--that’s what our house looked like that night.

Well, two months later and we are finally able to get started.
